FotoKem’s 70mm film lab process has traditionally only been available to the world’s biggest filmmakers and studios…

…but for the first time ever we’re making it available to everyone who loves analog film

Upload your favorite pictures and our lab artists will record them to negative, then photochemically process and print them onto three or four frames of actual 70mm celluloid motion picture film (the same wide-gauge movie format used for some of the biggest and most beloved films in cinema history). FotoKem’s exclusive ability to film-out and print on 70mm makes FotoBooth the ultimate unique gift or keepsake.

Uploading vertical images? Here’s how to frame out the black bars on the sides:

70mm frames are best for horizontal images, so if you upload vertical images, we usually need to fill in black bars on either side to fill out the 70mm frame, like this:

If you don’t want those black bars, just click the Edit Photo button.

Then drag and resize the white rectangle until no black (outside area) is inside the white rectangle.

Step 1) Choose filmstrip type

Step 2) Upload and edit your photos

Please do not upload copyrighted images. Use EDIT PHOTO to adjust each image to your liking. You may add additional filmstrips after you complete your first.

Step 3) Enter your info

We are only shipping to US domestic addresses for now but delivery outside the US will be available soon, so please check back.

Yes. We print on color film stock so be aware that the black-and-white images on your film strip may have a very slight hue to them. This is a natural result of how black-and-white images appear when going through our photochemical process. Scroll down to PRO TIPS for more details.

Prep your images in a professional application such as Photoshop or Lightroom before you upload, making sure your images are exactly how you’d like them to appear within a 4096 x 3072 frame (1.33 aspect ratio). Scroll to the bottom for more PRO TIPS.

Pro Tips

Our upload / edit tool above is meant to allow everyone, regardless of skill, to upload and crop/rotate an image from their desktop or mobile device. These specifications below are for professionals looking for more precise control. Using a professional photo application such as Lightroom or Photoshop, you can pre-crop, rotate, pre-color and export your images to a higher quality file format such as 16-bit tiff to ensure a 1:1 representation onto the film negative, and subsequently the print.

Recommended Master Canvas Specs

Resolution: 4096 × 3072 pixels
Aspect ratio: 1.33:1 / 4:3
Compression: uncompressed or PNG, LZW
Color space / color profile: sRGB
File Format: PNG, 8- or 16-bit TIFF (uncompressed or LZW compression if you are uploading multiple TIFFS for smaller file sizes)

Safe Action Area

Treat the outer 5% of your canvas as a margin cut zone. Keep logos, typography, and vital visual subjects away from the extreme edges.

Remember: it’s photochemical

Dark photos don’t show up on the 70mm filmstrip as well as lighter photos, as film stock compresses deep shadow detail, so please account for high density exposure: lift your mid-tones slightly and avoid pure black gradients if you want to see detail in darker areas. Because we film out and process to 65mm color negative using color processing, black-and-white images may result in a slight color tint, and will not be represented as perfect neutral as it would on a true B&W film print.
